Built in Place for Commercial Operation
Deep Fission has selected the Great Plains Industrial Park in Parsons, Kansas, to host its advanced underground nuclear reactor pilot project in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy. Following the groundbreaking ceremony in December 2025, the company hopes to successfully demonstrate its Gravity Nuclear Reactor before developing a full-scale commercial project at the same location.
Participating in the DOE’s Reactor Pilot Program
Authorized under Executive Order 14301, the Reactor Pilot Program marks a historic shift in federal policy, enabling reactor testing and deployment on sites outside of national laboratories. This initiative is a cornerstone of the Department of Energy’s commitment to reform and streamline processes that will unlock innovation and speed up the development of next-generation nuclear technologies.
Powering Innovation from Proven Locations
We have selected our first three planned power sites in Texas, Utah, and Kansas, each chosen for its strong geology, stable infrastructure, and community support. These regions offer ideal conditions for our underground reactors, combining secure siting with close proximity to high-demand energy industries. For the DOE Reactor Pilot Program, the Kansas site will lead the way for Deep Fission.
Long-term Land Use
Safety is our top priority. Deep Fission’s reactor is placed deep underground, where the surrounding geology provides natural containment and protection. This design aims to reduce risk and minimize any impact on the surface. In addition, the project will follow strict safety standards and environmental policies. The Department of Energy, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, and other relevant agencies will oversee the construction of Deep Fission's first Gravity Nuclear Reactor, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission will observe, support, and maintain awareness.
Cultural Rationale & Public Acceptance
We are committed to clear, accessible communication about how the technology works and how we keep the community safe. Deep Fission is committed to keeping the community informed as the work progresses, and we’ll provide clear pathways for people to stay updated and engage as they wish.
