We’re thrilled to announce the formation of the Deep Fission inaugural Advisory Board, bringing together a group of renowned leaders and visionaries from diverse industries, including advanced nuclear power, physics, the geologic subsurface, government funding, and AI. These distinguished experts will offer invaluable strategic guidance and support as we advance in our mission to deliver clean, reliable, cost-effective nuclear power a mile underground.
The inaugural members of the Advisory Board include (in alphabetical order):
- Steven Chu – Nobel Laureate and former Secretary of Energy under President Obama. He is currently the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Physics, of Molecular and Cellular Physiology, and of Energy Science and Engineering at Stanford University. With a celebrated career in physics and energy innovation, Steven has been at the forefront of efforts to address climate change through sustainable energy solutions. His extensive experience in research and policy-making, combined with his deep understanding of the energy landscape, will be instrumental in steering Deep Fission as it aims to transform the nuclear energy sector.
- Steven Koonin – Former Under Secretary for Science at the U.S. Department of Energy, former Chief Scientist at BP, and current senior fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institution. Steven has a deep understanding of energy systems, climate science, and policy, and his background will bolster Deep Fission’s efforts to redefine nuclear power as a pivotal component of the clean energy transition.
- John C. Mather – Senior Astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and Nobel Prize recipient in Physics for his work on the Cosmic Background Explorer Satellite (COBE). Currently, he serves as Senior Project Scientist for the James Webb Space Telescope, leading the science team and representing scientific interests. John’s unparalleled expertise in astrophysics, coupled with his work in cutting-edge technology and methodologies for space exploration, will provide critical insights as Deep Fission continues to disrupt the nuclear energy space through its groundbreaking approach.
- Mark Peters – CEO of MITRE Corporation, and former Director of Idaho National Laboratory (INL). Mark is a leader in advanced nuclear energy research and development, with decades of experience driving innovation in the sector. His knowledge of nuclear technology, policy, and operations will help shape Deep Fission’s strategy.
- Joanna Riley – Co-founder and CEO of Censia, a cutting-edge talent intelligence platform that leverages AI to transform workforce management. Joanna is a serial entrepreneur whose AI model has helped Deep Fission identify and hire key team members in nuclear engineering and senior leadership. Her understanding of talent intelligence will provide critical support as the Deep Fission team expands in the coming years.
- Allison Salisbury – Entrepreneur focused on creating social impact ventures that harness AI to unlock human potential, Allison has extensive experience scaling successful ventures and helping Fortune 500 companies develop talent strategies. Her expertise will be key in guiding Deep Fission’s growth and navigating the complex talent landscape in the nuclear energy sector.
Deep Fission emerged from stealth mode in August and is already making strides in pre-licensing activities with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, having submitted our Regulatory Engagement Plan and Conceptual Design Approval White Paper. We are on track to deliver safe, cost competitive commercial developments by 2029, a goal made possible by leveraging an established supply chain and low-enriched uranium fuel.
We are fortunate to have such an exceptional team of experts joining our Advisory Board and together, we’ll continue to venture beyond traditional conventions, unlocking the transformative power of nuclear.
